Sports grass seed is not normally difficult to grow but can be difficult to manage when subjected to the rigours of play. Under optimum conditions a full playable grass sward on a winter games pitch can be achieved in as little as 6 weeks. Fine turf areas such as golf greens can establish equally as fast but can take 12 - 18 months to achieve a desirable playing surface.
WINTER GAMES GRASS SEED
For best results follow the instructions on the seed packet or poster that can be found in the your gift box.
- A free draining sandy growing medium is best.
-Aim to firm your soil before over seeding.
-Sow the seeds evenly over the surface and lightly cover. The seeds will still germinate without being covered.
-Keep in a frost free place in good light.
-"Caution" - do not over water or allow to dry out.
-Once germinated allow the new shoots to reach approximately 50mm (2") before reducing to 25mm (1") to encourage side shoots (tillering).
-Once established your new turf can be planted into an existing lawn area. Water regularly until established.
- Enjoy your sporting memorabilia!
KEY INGREDIENTS
Grass needs good light levels, nutrients, water and air to grow successfully. Many stadiums create poor growing conditions for grass. A long term process of selection, plant breeding and performance trials are used to develop grass for natural playing surfaces. This is why the grass seed you are growing is special.
